Last night I was trying to con my sister into getting off the phone with a friend to play Wii Fit. Kane was up waiting for her so he can watch her Hula Hoop. heehee
She was saying, "Can you call me back..." when we heard it. Shots.
Now I have lived in North Omaha for awhile and have heard gun shots before. I think the closest that I have been was 2 blocks. That sounds pretty close though. So imagine my horror when we heard shots that were literally behind me. The back of my yard is a tall fence that Omaha Housing Authority put up. It separates the projects from the non project houses. Where were these shots fired then? On the other side of the fence.
CC was upstairs putting Wyatt to bed. We were in the living room and the boys room faces the front too. So Allie, when the shots were all over (about 15 of them) dropped to the floor. When you hear shots, your generally supposed to drop to the floor immediately...not after they are done. LOL
CC called me, which was unusual because he never takes his phone upstairs, and he went to the window that faces the shooting (not very intelligent, I know) and lets me know that there are so many people running from the neighborhood to the shooting. Then we hear police and a WHOLE bunch of people start running from the shooting to guess where? Our street. CC yells at us to turn off all the lights so none of the runners will try and come into our house. A few jumped our fence and ran through our back yard to the front yard. The police slammed on their breaks in front of our house and ran out with their guns drawn. They got 3 of the guys and took them in for questioning. It was amazing all of the people going outside to tell their side of the story.
We, at this point, have police going through our yard, checking under our porches and in the truck. My nosy sister wants to go outside and I told her I live here! Your not going out there! I did not see anything therefore we are not getting involved!
I began thinking. Mimi (my grandma) is gonna FREAK out when she finds out the shooting was pretty much in my backyard. She has been begging us to move. She has been saying, "Wait til summer! All the shootings happen then!" One warm day and we already have a shooting.
Kane was scared. He was shaking. He was afraid a bullet would come in here.
After a lot of distraction (Allie not doing so good on some of the games) Kane was ok to go to bed...at TEN O'CLOCK! Oh my gosh kid!
We wake up this morning only to discover that the 3 kids who were taken in for questioning were released and the kid shot was shot in his back.
So we have someone out there who is shooting others behind their back.
I am not a little freaked out. :(
